An Example of a Complex Bow Repair
The musician complained of fatigue when playing with the bow, noting the need for constant pressure control, which, however, did not lead to stable sound production, and the sound felt "unsteady."
An examination of the bow revealed that it was most likely cracked in the area of the grip. Consequently, when pressure was applied to the string, the bow bent at the crack site, leading to a loss of hair tension.
Additionally, the bow had a worn appearance with scuffed areas on the stick, a damaged winding, and a torn grip.
Upon disassembly, it was discovered that the bow had been repaired before, involving a partial replacement of the stick. The joint had come unglued, and the fitting was incorrect, with gaps and misalignment.
All necessary repairs were carried out, including the replacement of the worn winding and grip.
The bow regained its original playing qualities, with its previous weight and center of gravity preserved.
This work was performed by A. Dmitriev (Alexander Dmitrieff).
