On November 3, 1868, a petition was submitted to the Acting Ataman of the Don Cossack Host, Lieutenant General Chertkov, for the construction of a church in the name of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The completed church was consecrated on March 11, 1875.
After the period of persecution of the Church, in May 2007, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the St. John the Forerunner Male Monastery was established in the village of Chuginka.
The unique aspect of the monastery lies in its creation of the highest-class musical instruments. Within its walls operates a violin workshop where monks, with God in their hearts, craft violins, violas, and cellos.
Watch a short feature about the monastery's violin workshop on the TV channel "Rossiya 1" in the weekly news summary "ITOGI" from July 24, 2022, hosted by Dmitry Kiselyov.
